Update: Italian Cases Against Google Concerning Privacy Continue

Earlier this month, I wrote about Italian authorities charging four Google executives with “criminal charges of defamation and failure to exercise control over personal data.” The municipality of Milan also filed a suit against the company. The cases concern a video showing a disabled boy being harassed by classmates that was uploaded to Google Video’s Italian site.

The victim in the video has withdrawn from the Milan suit, reports IT World. The judge overseeing the case agreed to allow the boy’s role as plaintiff to be filled by “an association that represents the interests of sufferers from Down syndrome and of Milan city council.” The judge also allowed a “third plaintiff, a woman who claims she has been defamed by Google because it failed to update its service to include news of her acquittal in another court case.” The trial was adjourned until March 17.
