The Senate Commerce Committee and Chairman Jay Rockefeller (D-W. Va.) have announced a hearing, “The Need for Privacy Protections: Perspectives from the Administration and the Federal Trade Commission.” From the Web site: “This hearing will examine the recent privacy reports that were released by the Obama Administration and the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). Both of these reports highlighted the need for federal legislation that provides baseline privacy protections to consumers.” Rockefeller said, “At this hearing, I hope to have a robust discussion on how the Administration and FTC propose to empower Americans so that they can say if, when, and how their information is collected and used.” Here are the recent reports from the FTC and the Obama administration (pdf). The hearing will be webcast.
