    Montreal Gazette: Companies cracking down on Facebook, Twitter in the workplace

    The Montreal Gazette reports on a survey concerning employee use of social-networking sites.

    Companies are increasingly limiting their employees’ access to social networking sites, according to a survey made public Wednesday.

    The survey, commissioned by the recruiting firm Robert Half Technology, found that 21 percent of chief information officers are limiting the personal use of social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, in the workplace. [...]

    A previous survey commissioned by the recruiting firm found that 58 percent of companies ban social media sites altogether.

    Jennifer Cowland, the director of technical services for Robert Half [Technology], said social media can make a company more productive. She says there’s no one policy that would work best for all companies, so each must decide for itself
