The Federal Trade Commission has started a new technology blog and Twitter account for FTC Chief Technologist Ed Felten. I am hoping that this blog will touch on privacy issues connected with technology, as the FTC has engaged in such issues as privacy and security in mobile apps and devices, social-networking sites and data collection, the use of facial recognition technology, and consumer privacy issues with targeted behavioral advertising. The blog is at www.ftc.gov/tech and he tweets at www.twitter.com/techFTC. Here’s an excerpt from Felten’s initial post:
Our goal is to talk about technology in a way that is sophisticated enough to be interesting to hard-core techies, but straightforward enough to be accessible to the broad public that knows something about technology but doesn’t qualify as expert. Every post will have an identified author–usually me–who will speak to you in the first person. We’ll aim for a conversational, common-sense tone–and if we fall short, I’m sure you’ll let us know in the comments.
